Our Story
Founded in 2019, by dancer/choreographer, Omonike Akinyemi,
Image Quilt Dance Theater is a place for the creation of original dance pieces that are set on the stage and on film and digital mediums. Our dance classes focus on African Diasporic dance styles including Afro-Cuban, Afro-Haitian, West African, and Flamenco. We also create and teach dance that stems from Modern dance, Ballet, and Jazz. This summer, Image Quilt will host its second summer arts Intensive for youth ages 8 through Adult, interested in professional and pre-professional dance and dramatic arts training.
Image Quilt holds workshops in collaboration with community organizations and at our own studio in Upstate New York. Workshops and events are open to anyone throughout the world.
